Abstract: Periodontitis is induced by bacterial biofilm that forms on teeth characterized by irreversible destruction of periodontal tissue. However, the inflammatory response to infection is influenced by environmental factors as well as by genetic factors. This review focused on the research advances of genetic characteristics of periodontitis, the related gene polymorphisms, and the genetic family diseases which increases periodontitis susceptibility.
