Abstract: Objective:To investigate the and clinical significance of tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs) and matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2) in ameloblastomas(ABs). Methods: The of TAMs(CD68) and MMP-2 was examined in 43 ABs and 10 normal oral mucosa by universal two-step immunohistochemical technique. Results:Expression of TAMs and MMP-2 were significantly higher in ABs compared with normal oral mucosa(P<0.01). TAMs was mainly expressed within the stroma and MMP-2 was mainly expressed within the islands of ABs. There was a positive correlation between MMP-2 score and TAMs count in ABs(r=0.331, P<0.05). Conclusions:The common of TAMs and MMP-2 may play an important role in the development of ABs.
