Research Progress on Correlation between Mitochondrial DNA and Periodontitis

摘要: 牙周炎作为一种发病率高的慢性感染性疾病,学者们对其免疫学机制的研究极其关注。线粒体DNA(mitochondrial DNA, mtDNA)是损伤相关分子模式(damage-associated molecular patterns, DAMPs)的主要成员,可参与激活固有免疫应答,近年,mtDNA与炎症的关系成为研究热点。有证据表明,mtDNA参与了牙周炎的发生发展,同时,mtDNA和牙周炎相关炎症信号通路相关的证据也提示,mtDNA可能在牙周炎炎症过程中起到重要作用。本文就此做一综述,旨在为进一步探究mtDNA与牙周炎的关系提供线索。

Abstract: Periodontitis is a chronic infectious disease with a high incidence rate. Scholars have paid great attention to the study of its immunological mechanism. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is a major member of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) and can be involved in activating the innate immune response. In recent years, the relationship between mtDNA and inflammation has become a research hotspot. There are evidences showing mtDNA is involved in the occurrence and development of periodontitis. Besides, many evidences of mtDNA and inflammatory signaling pathways related to periodontitis suggest that mtDNA may play an important role in the inflammation of periodontitis. This review aims to provide clues for the further exploration of the relationship between mtDNA and periodontitis.
